Over the past few months it has been reported in the press how young people have been hit hardest by the economic downturn. Statistics show that young people are finding it extremely hard to get work. All too often job adverts ask for experience but how do you get that experience in the first place? In addition to this, with increased fees being charged for Higher Education, students need to be fully informed about courses they are applying for.
To support students in their career choices Millbrook Academy held its Careers Fair on Thursday 2nd February. Over 28 companies, colleges, universities and training providers were invited, giving an opportunity for students of all abilities to find out about and in some cases apply for post 16 courses or employment.
Exhibitors included the RAF, Bridge Training Ltd, Cirencester College, Glevum Security, GE Aviation, Hartpury College, Tesco Stores and many more. Every year 11and 12 student attended the event as well as some year 10 students.
It was the perfect opportunity for students to focus on the next vitally important steps in their lives.

Having the opportunity to talk face to face with employers and college staff gave students an insight into the qualifications and skills they will need, as well as learning about how to apply for their chosen course or employment.

All exhibitors commented on the mature attitude of our students, their politeness and enthusiasm. The students certainly were a credit to Millbrook Academy. Further careers sessions are being planned for students in the coming months that will build on the work achieved at the fair. Millbrook Academy is very grateful to all our guests who generously gave their time to attend the Careers Fair.
