What are the first steps our school will take if special educational needs are identified?

We carry out a full assessment including previous history to ensure we have a full picture of the child.  At every stage we work alongside the child and their parents/carers to discuss appropriate provision to support the child’s progress.  Personalised Learning Plans (PLPs) are written by the student’s tutor in collaboration with the child and their parents/carers.

PLPs are then shared with teaching staff to ensure that appropriate strategies are applied to support the student’s progress.  This ensures high quality teaching targeted at the student’s area of weakness.  Where progress continues to be less than expected, our Senco works collaboratively with teaching staff and parents to assess student needs further and if necessary refers to external agencies.
