Performing Arts Students Summer Productions

posted 3 Oct 2016, 07:27 by James Shackley   [ updated 15 Mar 2017, 03:18 by Miriam Wright ]

Over the summer, our Performing Arts students were busy taking part in a number of high profile productions. Mathew Bircher and Callum Newman (year 13) were involved in a production of The Tailor Of Gloucester at the Everyman Theatre in Cheltenham. The re-telling of this classic story was created especially for the Everyman, and involved professional actors, community dancers and community singers. It ran for a week and received excellent reviews in both local and national press. Callum Newman was also on stage in London’s West End, performing with the National Youth Theatre of Great Britain. This organisation is celebrating its 60th Anniversary this year, and mounted a gala performance in London featuring current members, including Callum, as well as famous actors who began their careers with the NYT. The famous faces included Dr Who actor Matt Smith as well as James Bond actors Daniel Craig and Timothy Dalton, among others.

G15 Celebration of Success

posted 3 Oct 2016, 07:25 by James Shackley

In July, a group of Key Stage 3 students joined with students from 14 other schools to celebrate achievements in a packed Gloucester Cathedral. During the evening, Millbrook students performed their original song “Love is the Reason” which had been written as part of a project run by The Songwriting Charity earlier in the year. The finale of the evening involved students from all of the schools joining together to sing “Go The Distance”, a song created by students from Barnwood Park Arts College as part of the same project. The video shows what an amazing sound was made by 300 young people singing together. We were very proud of our performers who behaved in a professional manner throughout, learning the finale song very quickly and performing with only one rehearsal!

Gloucestershire Schools Games U14 Football Finals.

Millbrook Academy U14 Girls’ football squad went through to the Gloucestershire School Games and won all their matches making them the Country winners.

The tournament was an opportunity for the girls’ to play schools from all over the county. They played 4 games in the first round only conceding one goal overall. This meant they won their pool, giving them first place.

They came to play Churchdown in the final, which was exactly the same as the local tournaments where we had lost in a penalty shootout. Millbrook were determined and focused leading them to a 2-0 defeat making them the U14 champions.

Throughout the day the girls’ played amazingly and showed excellent sportsmanship. We had Rose Carter in goal, Emily Randall & Chelsea Dennis in defence, Ellie Harris in centre mid and Lacy Liggett & Jamie Workman upfront. Throughout the tournament Lacy Liggett scored 7 goals, Ellie Harris scored 8 goals and Jamie Workman scored 1 goal.
