AET Enterprise Challenge 2014

This was the second year a team of students took part in the AET Enterprise Challenge – a national competition in which any academy in the AET may enter teams. This year the team consisted of Kalim Davies and Ellie Cole in Y8 and Josh Butt, Ethan Alden and Oliver Gjika in Y7 and was managed by Mrs. Denton.

The challenge lasted for the month of January, with the final taking place on the 5th of February. Out team did tremendously well getting through to the final and coming as a joint runner up. Which I think everyone agrees is a fantastic achievement!

The initial task was to research and design an ‘educational tool’ and after much market research the team created and designed the ‘Edu-Pad’, an educational tablet with a range of innovative features that would ultimately replace the need for separate text books and exercise books and could be used across all subjects.

With each round they got through the group further developed their ideas, such as product development and a marketing and advertising campaign which included a radio advert and a TV advert (and they are very grateful to Mr Versaci for appearing in that with them!) and culminated in a presentation to the Quality Leading Board ‘Dragon’s Den’ via skype.

The students involved in this year’s challenge were amazing. They created and developed a pioneering and unique product, designing every aspect of the ‘Edu-Pad’. This was done in day long sessions, but also involved a lot of work after school and in lunchtimes for the team. They are very grateful to all the teachers who have supported them throughout the challenge and are delighted to have placed so highly.

Congratulations Team Millbrook!
