Millbrook Academy student Isabella Weatherall recently swam the equivalent of the English Channel to raise funds for her local Guides unit and a local hedgehog hospital.

‘I did the swim at the Virgin Active pool in Gloucester over eight days, swimming an average of 170 lengths a day. This took nearly two hours each day. Some of the Guides and Leaders from my unit came to the pool to cheer me on. I started to get tired in the middle of the week, but the support made me feel better and my dad fed me fruit pastilles to keep me going!. I knew I couldn’t give up because I was raising funds for the Guides and the hedgehogs. I wanted to make Mum, Dad and my swimming teacher proud of me.’

Isabella has been swimming since she was three months old. She swims in a club and is currently doing a lifeguarding course.

‘The highlight of the swim was the last length. I made everyone laugh because I swam it in butterfly, got to the end and said “Bonjour”.’

Mrs Scott said. ‘This is an amazing achievement and we are extremely proud of Isabella.’
