On Tuesday 4 June, Author Kate Maryon visited Millbrook Academy as part of her promotional tour to promote her new book “Invisible Girl” and to raise awareness of the issues of runaways and homelessness, together with giving students the opportunity to meet and interact with an author, raising the profile of literacy.

Kate is a truly inspiring author, whose books focus on real-life issues that affect young people today. She gave an interactive talk to 60 girls from years 7 & 8, sharing some of her own childhood experiences and how they led to her becoming a writer.

After her talk, students had the opportunity to purchase one of her books, which Kate dedicated and signed.

The students were inspired by Kate’s visit and commented:

“I liked the part where she told us about her childhood and what made her start writing books.”

“She is inspiring, kind and it was amazing! Plus she realises the potential in people.”

“She gave us tips about making a character, like thinking about what they would choose in a shop.”

Kate`s books are now available for students to loan from the Academy Library.
