Japanese Students Visit MBA

On Wednesday 1st July, 31 Japanese students from the Kosei High School in Tokyo came to Millbrook Academy as part of their week-long visit to England. The day began with the students meeting our students, giving us the opportunity of welcoming them with a Konnichiwa -- pronounced “kon-nee-chee-wah” which means hello in Japanese. 18 of our year 9 and 10 students gave the girls a tour of our school and were given the opportunity of practicing speaking each of the languages. After the tour, our students took the girls into lessons across the school allowing them to get a flavour of English education! There were lots going on including English, PE, Performing arts and Geography.

After break the girls read a welcome speech and were given the chance to perfect their English speaking! Year 7 and 8 were then invited to join in on some traditional Japanese games and crafts led by our guests, including Origami, musical chairs, calligraphy and using chop sticks. Lunch was then eaten on the field, thanks to a beautiful sunny day, where afterwards the girls joined in conversations and taking lots of ‘selfies’ with our students. Our students were extremely welcoming towards our guests and took every opportunity throughout the day to come over and have a conversation. The 10 students who led the day said that they couldn’t believe how incredibly polite the girls were and how it was fantastic to embrace the Japanese culture.
