Millbrook Academy was one of six Gloucestershire secondary schools chosen by The Everyman Theatre to take part in a performance project to commemorate the bicentenary of Charles Dickens’s birth. Each school developed a 15 minute adaptation of one of Dickens’ novels – ours was “David Copperfield”. 22 Year 9 students worked with three professional actors to create, develop and rehearse their version of the novel, which was performed, along with the other schools’ plays, at the Parabola Arts Centre in Cheltenham on Thursday 11th October.

The performance itself was fantastic. The students had worked incredibly hard to develop and rehearse their performance, and that certainly showed. Their performance was both funny and touching, with excellent performances from every member of the cast. The students’ enthusiasm and talent really shone through, and we were immensely proud of them all. It is impossible to pick out individual performances, as everyone was brilliant. It was a really exciting project to have been involved with, and all of the students gained a great deal from the experience.
