We received very positive feedback from the Ofsted Inspectors who visited Millbrook Academy recently. They found that the journey of improvement the Academy is continuing apace.

The inspectors noted that the achievement has improved year on year and they confirmed that staff are committed to the academy and its continued progress, acknowledging the key strengths in several subjects, including English, where all students are making good progress. Inspectors saw examples of good and some outstanding practice in lessons.

The Principal has been praised for providing strong leadership and together with her leadership team has been recognised as managing a period of significant change exceptionally well and for continuing to improve and support the progress of students.

We were delighted that they recognised the huge improvements in attitudes to learning of our pupils and they stated; ‘The students’ behaviour around school is good.’ ‘Student’s spiritual, moral, social and cultural development is promoted well, both in many lessons and in a wide range of extra-curricular activities.

 

Here are some of the other points the inspectors raised:

  • Senior leaders have managed significant changes well and have secured improvement in teaching, particularly in mathematics.
  • Achievement in English is good and all groups of students are making good progress in the subject. Students also achieve well in performing arts, business studies and art and design.
  • Achievement in mathematics is improving. Evidence from the inspection and the academy’s monitoring show that better teaching in mathematics is resulting in improved progress in lessons.
  • Where teaching is good or better, high-quality learning is achieved through activities which challenge all students.
  • The school’s data for students in the current Years 10 and 11 show that levels of progress are improving.
  • There are examples of good teaching in English, performing arts, business studies and art and design.
  • Care and support for disabled students and those who have special educational needs are good and these students are making good progress.
