Physical Education Gifted and Talented meet Olympic Bronze medallist

We were really lucky to be able to welcome Chloe Rogers, Olympic bronze medallist to Millbrook Academy on Thursday 13th December 2012. Chloe had travelled to meet students in neighbouring Primary schools, before spending some quality time with the Academy’s students. Chloe participated in a talk to the 6th form BTEC Sport and Psychology students, providing them with an insight to what it takes to become an athlete representing their country in a home Olympic Games. Students made the most of this opportunity to ask her some intriguing questions. Chloe was then introduced to Danish longball (a game she had not heard off), which the students were playing as a reward for their hard work this year,

Chloe gave a talk and presentation to the Gifted and Talented PE students, she showed them whatit is like behind closed doors, and the preparation and steps she made to become an elite athlete. Students enjoyed hearing how she played all sports as a youngster, but it was hockey that became her passion. There was much excitement when during the talk and presentation she showed and let the students wear and hold her bronze Olympic medal.

After school the Gifted and Talented group were treated to a lesson in dodgeball. A great opportunity for them to pit their talent against each other and to really test their knowledge of tactics.

“I am really pleased with how the students conducted themselves during the day, and feel they have benefited from knowing that pure hard work can get them anywhere,” said Miss Amey, Head of PE.

Day 3 of the Gifted and Talented programme will run on January 28th2013 and will be an experience in lacrosse.
