Open Evening Success

posted 10 Oct 2014, 04:32 by Kate Hunt
Once again our annual Open Evening proved to be a huge success, with over 250 families coming to see for themselves all Millbrook Academy has to offer. Students from all years were on hand to give guided tours and each department ran exciting activities for potential new Academy students.

Primary pupils and their families were invited to visit the Academy to experience a wide range of taster activities provided by each subject and hear Principal, Jan Scott, talk of the many opportunities and successes enjoyed by students over the past years. A group of Performing Arts students kicked off the presentation with a rendition of one of the songs from the next Academy show, Sweeny Todd.

Among the activities, visitors had the opportunity to visit the Art department and view exemplary pieces of art, Media were busy editing on iMovie. The Maths department had assorted maths puzzle tasks.

The English department played word games and introduced parents and students to the Accelerated Reader scheme. DT were busy laser cutting whilst History and Geography were giving min earthquake demonstrations and asking questions such as, ‘Are you a global citizen?’

As usual, the science department proved very popular with their experiments and dissection!

To the delight of the public, many departments laid on edible “taster” opportunities. Food Technology students were baking and decorating cakes and in MFL they were tempting visitors with nibbles from around Europe.

Our students were the real stars of Open Evening, running activities, giving tours and making our visitors feel welcome. It would have been impossible to put on the evening without their tireless enthusiasm and support.

Everyone agreed the evening was a resounding success!
