Performing Arts Successes This Summer

Far from taking time to relax this summer, Performing Arts students at MBA have been busy doing what they do best.

Keaton Pearce, who studies BTEC Performing Arts and is in Year 12, went with his dance group Coady Crew to the UDO World Street Dance Championships in Glasgow. Keaton was named 5th in the world for his solo dance, and was part of the team which took 4th place for their performance of Rhythm Nation.

Callum Newman and Nathan Harter, both in Year 11, performed in the world premiere of “Will Harvey’s War” at The Everyman Theatre in Cheltenham. This specially commissioned piece told the story of Gloucestershire poet FW Harvey, who fought and was captured at the Battle of the Somme during World War 1. Nathan and Callum shared the stage with professional actors and received outstanding press reviews.

And finally, a number of students were chosen by BBC casting agents to attend a workshop for a forthcoming BBC adaptation of the Laurie Lee novel “Cider With Rosie”, after the agent visited the academy in the summer term. Of those who attended, two – Conner Millin and Sam Fagan, both in Year 10, were invited to further auditions, and are now waiting to find out what happens next.

We are very proud of all of our Performing Arts students – they have all shown huge amounts of creativity and resilience and we are thrilled to be able to celebrate their successes.
