Preparing Students For Employment

Millbrook Academy has been preparing another group of Y13 students for employment.

The group of students are just about to complete their A Levels and are not looking to go to University yet. They are all seeking employment and/or apprenticeships next year.

The 10 week course, run by Giddy Heights, aims to build the students' confidence, help them prepare a quality application, prepare them for interviews and introduce them to businesses that are actively seeking to employ 18 year olds rather than graduates.

Endsleigh, Ageas, Ecclesiastical, Q Hotel Group and G First were all involved in either delivering or contributing to the course call Connect2Careers.  "Last year, 5 out of 6 students found employment as a direct result of the course with the businesses that contributed and we are obviously hoping for the impact this year. We know that one or two have already secured interviews and stated that their applications and confidence had improved as a result of the course" Stuart Langworthy

Clearly we would like to thank the businesses for their continued involvement - this is a very successful course in a climate where more and more students are thinking twice about whether to go to university or not. Or whether to go now or in the future when they can afford it. We also know that businesses are crying out for leavers who are 'employable' and the aim here is to try to bring the two together.
