Songwriting Project - The Next Steps

The Year 8 and 9 students who are involved in the singing project run by The Songwriting Charity are continuing to work hard on their original song. Having learned about different styles of music, different beats, speeds and scales, the students were asked to write some lyrics.

The group collectively decided that the theme of the song would be their hopes and dreams for the future. Having worked on lyrics in small groups, the students then entrusted Ben O'Sullivan, from the Songwriting Charity, with their creations, and he took them away and created a fantastic, upbeat, inspiring song which included ideas from each one of the students involved. When we first heard the end result, we were blown away and everyone was very excited to hear their own lyrics included.

The project is currently focusing, during weekly sessions, on learning and refining the performance of the song. Ben is teaching the students about singing in harmony and mixing and overlapping different sections of the song.

Mrs Cameron, Head of Performing Arts said. "I have been very impressed with the students' commitment to the after-school rehearsals, and with the enthusiasm and focus they have shown during each session."
