Ex-Millbrook student Josh Patel, who left us in 2009, has recently taken part in the National Student Drama Festival in Scarborough.

The festival began in 1956, and is a showcase for young peoples’ theatre. Throughout the year, selectors travel to schools, colleges and universities to choose the best productions to be performed at the festival. This year, just 11 productions were chosen, including “The Twelve Dancing Princesses”, performed by StrongBox Theatre, of which Josh is a founding member. After studying Performing Arts at Millbrook Academy, Josh went Coventry University, where he graduated with a first class honours degree in Theatre and Professional Practice. He then set up StrongBox Theatre.

The Sunday Times, which reported on the National Student Drama Festival said that “The Twelve Dancing Princesses” had “an imaginative and engaging musical setting” and “a darkeness that delights in the grotesque and macabre”. The company won a Judge’s Commendation Award for Mise En Scene.
