Be not afraid of greatness. Some are born great, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust upon them.

School Discipline - Excerpt from Government publication
As a parent, you should support your academy's behaviour policy. An academy with well behaved students is usually one where your child will feel safe and learn well. If your child breaks the rules, some of the sanctions they can expect are:
- A reprimand
- A letter to parents/carers
- Removal from their class or group
- Loss of break or lunchtime privileges
- Detention
What if your child gets a detention?
The academy has the legal right to give your child a detention - either after academy hours, during lunch time, or on a Saturday or a academy holiday. If they fail to attend without a reasonable excuse, the Principal may give a more severe punishment.
You are entitled to 24 hours' written notice of a detention, so you can make arrangements for transport or childcare. The notice should tell you why the detention was given and how long the child will have to stay at the academy.
If you object to the detention, you may explain your situation to your child's academy. They may reconsider giving the detention in certain circumstances, such as:
- The detention falls on an important religious day for your family.
- You are concerned about the length and safety of the route between the academy and home.
- You cannot reasonably make alternative arrangements for collecting your child from the academy.
