On Friday 13th July Millbrook Academy hosted its inaugural Summer Sports Festival for local primary schools. The event was organised and run by sixth form students studying towards their Level 3 BTEC Sport qualification.

Two separate tournaments were held in Kwick Cricket and Rounders with the scores from both events counting towards the overall standing.

Teams from Coopers Edge, Castle Hill and Brockworth Primaries arrived under glorious sunshine for what promised to be a fun afternoon. Whilst not involved in matches students were treated to mini coaching sessions provided by the Millbrook Academy students aimed at honing the skills needed to be successful in the games.

During the games students from all the schools showed great skills in batting, bowling and fielding. This lead to some high scoring and very competitive matches.

At the end of the day the scores were totalled up and Brockworth Primary School emerged as overall winners, with Castle Hill in second and Coopers Edge only just behind in third place. We would like to thank the staff involved in bringing the students over and the schools themselves for allowing their students to take up this opportunity.

A special mention should go to the 6th Form students who organised and ran the afternoon. Their planning, organistaion, communication and enthusiasm were all outstanding and they were a credit to the staff within the PE department who worked with them to prepare the event.

Congratulations to Daniel Sweet who competed in the High Jump event at the Gloucester Schools Athletic competition held back on 31st May 2012. He won his event and was offered the opportunity to compete at the County trials on 16th June. There was strong competition at although not quite jumping a seasons best, he achieved 1m50cm placing him second in the county. This is a great achievement and he will be presented with Athletic colours to wear on his new blazer in September. The PE department would like to congratulate him on his efforts, and parents for taking the day to support him.
