Out of hours learning

Homework is seen as an integral part of the learning opportunity provided for students at Millbrook Academy. It not only reinforces classroom learning, it also helps students to develop skills and attitudes they need for successful exam preparation and lifelong learning. It promotes independent learning skills, including the habits of inquiry and investigation. It also provides feedback to teachers on how students are learning.

Homework also allows parents and carers to be involved in students’ learning and keeps them informed about work students are doing. All homework is set on the FROG site where students can download their homework and parents can also see what homework has been set.

To support students in taking ownership of their learning we have the following resources available 24/7.

GCSEPod is a unique service, designed to tap into the learning potential of smart phones and handheld devices through a combination of clever technology and award-winning content, to ensure equality of access, high usage and the best possible impact on GCSE results.

Most departments use Frog to post homework activities and resources form lessons. This is particularly useful if a student has been absent – they can catch up on work missed. Millbrook Academy also has a homework site that students can access to get homework and helpful resources.

At the beginning of the school year in September, teachers will nominate the days on which homework will be set in each class. This will provide each student with a personalised exam timetable.

All homework should be completed in exercise books where appropriate. If completed on individual sheets or booklets, these should be neatly stuck into exercise books.

Year 7 students should take all exercise books home after every lesson, unless retained by the teacher for marking.
