It has been another busy term at Millbrook. Please download our Easter Newsletter to read about just a few of the activities that the staff and students have taken part in this term.

Millbrook Mathematics Year 6 GTA sessions

Millbrook Academy have recently started hosting mathematics sessions for Year 6 (and 5) gifted and talented students on Friday afternoons lead by Mr Parkinson (Head of Mathematics).

The top 6 students from Brockworth Primary Academy, Greatfield Park Primary School and Severn View Primary Academy were invited to Millbrook for fun and extending activities in mathematics. 

Sports Relief at Millbrook Academy

They swam, they ran, they dressed up and they took on the Dream Team, all for a good cause.

Throughout the week, energetic students and staff at Millbrook Academy took part in various events to raise funds for Sports Relief 2014.

On Monday staff from the netball ‘Dream Team’ challenged students from different year groups to netball matches.

Industrial Action by NUT (National Union of Teachers)

The NUT (National Union of Teachers) have voted to take strike action in our region on Wednesday 26 March 2014.

Sport Relief Non Uniform Day

Millborok Academy will be holding a non uniform day on Friday 21 March to raise funds for Sport Relief 2014. Students should bring £1 if they would like to participate and come dressed in sportswear! We would also ask students to be willing to take part in the 'treadmill challenge' so that we can clock up enough miles to run around the world!!

New Millbrook Academy Bus Route

Millbrook Academy are pleased to announce that we will be running a new school bus to replace the Stagecoach Route 4.  Millbrook Academy’s priority was to ensure that the students who were affected by the withdrawal of the route 4 service were still able to get to and from the Academy safely and with as little disruption as possible.

Les Miserables

AET Enterprise Challenge 2014

This was the second year a team of students took part in the AET Enterprise Challenge – a national competition in which any academy in the AET may enter teams. This year the team consisted of Kalim Davies and Ellie Cole in Y8 and Josh Butt, Ethan Alden and Oliver Gjika in Y7 and was managed by Mrs. Denton.

Year 5 Arts Event

On Friday 6th December, we were very pleased to welcome Year 5 students from Castle Hill Primary School to take part in a special arts event organised by some of our Year 11 students. The Year 11 students are working towards their Arts Award Silver Certificate, part of which involves demonstrating their leadership skills.

Y7 Rugby Tournament

MBA vs St Peters

The Year 7 boys were on the road again as they travelled to St Peter’s for a Friday evening game.

MBA boys got off to a positive start, making some important tackles and showing some strong positions in defence. The side St Peters played was by far their strongest and it wasn't long before they broke the dead lock.

To Sir With Love

 Millbrook Performing Arts students will be appearing this week at The Everyman Theatre in Cheltenham in a professional production of To Sir With Love. They are pictured here in their first rehearsal on the stage at The Everyman with the rest of the company. The students have worked incredibly hard and and we wish them the very best with their performances.

‘I swam the equivalent of the English Channel’

Millbrook Academy student Isabella Weatherall recently swam the equivalent of the English Channel to raise funds for her local Guides unit and a local hedgehog hospital.

Bristol trip with year 10

On 26th June, 48 year 10 Art students, along with 3 sixth formers, Mr Pearce, Miss Parker and Mrs Lane were involved in a trip to Bristol city centre as part of their GCSE Art coursework research on urban decay.  The students took the walk from Cabot Circus through into Stokes Croft, where every street and walkway is full of lively and bold street art.

Japanese students visit MBA

On Friday 5th July, 30 Japanese students came to Millbrook Academy as part of their visit to England. 

Year 11 Prom

The prom for the 2013 Year 11s was well attended and a fantastic evening at the Hallmark Hotel was had by all.  Students and staff enjoyed a pleasant and sunny evening together dancing the night away. Awards were given, which were chosen by the students and the Prom King and Queen were chosen by the staff. Jack Mcrae and Star Smith filled that honour.

Performing Arts Festival a Great Success!

Our Performing Arts Festival got underway with a competitive arts event for students from two local primaries.

Millbrook Athletic Achievement

A small but dedicated team of athletes from Millbrook were in action at Crypt School for the Gloucester District Athletics. All the athletes were pushed to their limits by some very good competitors. However some superb performances were seen from the Millbrook athletes.

Arts Festival - 25 to 28 June

Millbrook Academy will be holding an Arts Festival from Tuesday 25 to Friday 28 June, which will involve not only Millbrook Academy students, but students from local primary schools. The Arts Festival will be packed with music, drama and art, and will involve both day time and evening events.

Heart of Gloucester Rewards MBA Teacher

Inspiring stories of bravery and dedication were celebrated at the Heart of Gloucestershire Community Awards yesterday at Hatherley Manor Hotel. Millbrook Academy were delighted that Stuart Langworthy was presented with the public sector hero non-uniformed award.

Millbrook Students to star in professional production

Millbrook Academy students will be taking to the stage at The Everyman Theatre in Cheltenham in October, as part of the Touring Consortium Theatre Company’s production of “To Sir, With Love”.

Kate Maryon - Author Visit

On Tuesday 4 June, Author Kate Maryon visited Millbrook Academy as part of her promotional tour to promote her new book “Invisible Girl” and to raise awareness of the issues of runaways and homelessness, together with giving students the opportunity to meet and interact with an author, raising the profile of literacy.
